I think I have been having lucid dreams lately. They happen quite frequently. I will be asleep on my bed and it will be very dark. I try my best to wake up but I cant. I feel like something is holding me down.
Recently, in one of them, two blue, fuzzy figures were around me. One in front and one on my right side. I think neither of them is on my left because I sleep next to a wall on my left. I can tell that I am on my bed.
Sometimes, I try to speak as well, saying things like Help me! These dreams truly terrify me. I also hear a buzzing sound in my dreams. The more I try to wake up, the louder this buzzing sound gets. And when I do wake up, it is extremely easy for me to fall right back asleep.
I hope you can help me to stop these dreams or tell me how to handle them because I feel extremely terrified throughout and after my dreams.

Hi Amanda
Youre absolutely right! Youre having a lucid dream! (A lucid dream is a when were awake and alseepboth at the same time.) In your case though, you are feeling the paralysis of your body that occurs each night during REM (dreaming) sleep. And its not too comfortable a feeling!
Have you ever thought about why we dont move around in our sleep, and act out all the dreams we have? Its a good question, because we all move around a lot in our dreams. We run, we jump, we go swimming, we talk with our friends... Just about everything we do in waking life, we do in dreams. (And then some!)
The reason we dont act out our dreams (get out of bed and go running around...), is because our bodies are paralysed. We think were moving in a dream, but all the commands from our brains actually are intercepted before they can reach our bodiesat a place called the reticular formationat the top of our spinal cords.
In your lucid dream, youre awake in your head, but your bodys still asleep! This is why you feel like something is holding you down, and its also why you cant speak when you try to. Your body is paralyzed! The reason why you sometimes can see blue figures in your room, or hear buzzing sounds, is because youre drifting back and forth between waking and dreaming.
Everyone gets spooked by sleep paralysis dreams. The good news about them is that no one has ever been permanently paralysed, and they usually only last about twenty to thirty seconds. In fact, once you get used to them, they can even be kind of fun. If you can concentrate on having some cool dreams while youre half awake and half asleep, youll be a full fledged lucid dreamer. Awakeinside a body thats still sleeping!
