I dreamt that I was at a senior dance or something. (I am a senior in high school and in the dream, I knew that it was the last high school dance that I would attend.) While at the dance, I ran into a former friend of mine.

~~Background info~~~

The kid and I were really good friends at the end of our freshman year and through about half of that summer. Once he had a girlfriend, he decided that we were no longer friends. After that, we didn’t talk for nearly two years. He changed a lot. In fact, he pretty much even changed social groups. Recently, I have talked to him a couple times and he acted like I had no reason to believe that anything was wrong. He’s okay with being friends again.

At the dance, I saw him standing alone in the corner. The corner was the darkest place in the dance hall. He was wearing the clothes associated with his new group of friends. Even though we have been on good terms for a few months now, I still felt like an invader. I was worried about him, so I went over anyway. He was sad about something, but he would not tell me what. He looked like he was going to cry. I comforted him and then decided that I would go back and dance because there was nothing I could do if he wouldn’t tell me what was wrong. When I started to walk away, he pulled me to him and gave me a hug. After that, we slow danced the rest of the evening. When the dance was over, he hugged me again and told me that he had to choose between one other girl and me. I told him that he had better make the choice pretty dang soon. He looked hurt that I was unhappy and then hugged me again. He decided that he wanted to be with me more than anything. I felt that he had done too little too late. With the feeling that it was the last time I’d ever see him again, I kissed him on the cheek and walked away... leaving him alone in the dark corner again.

Hi Melissa -

I think you’re over this guy. In your dream you knew that it was too little too late - it was also the last dance of your senior year, which is the last big gathering you will have before you and your friends begin to go your separate ways - off to college, etc. I think you two are headed different directions - and your dream shows that you know this already.
