I had the weirdest dream about a week ago and can remember it like it was yesterday.

It all started when I was in my kitchen and me, my mom, and dad were going out to eat and my mom says, “Why don’t you invite Tori Beth?” Tori Beth is my ex-girlfriend who my mom absolutely hates with a passion. I call her and she agrees even when I tell her my parents are going.

Then it cuts to me and my mom riding down the road to go get her. When we get there she gets in the back because I am driving and my mom is in the front with me. Then Tori Beth starts telling my mom things that you do not want a boyfriend’s mom to know. My mom is giving me this look like, “I told you she was a tramp.” When Tori Beth is finished, my mom just lights into her.

Then the dream switches and I am coming down the stairs in my house. I am about half way down when I hear Tori Beth say, “Yeah, we did drugs together, but now we are clean.” I run down the stairs and see my mom on the floor hysterically crying and balled up on the floor in the fetal postion. I try to calm her down but it doesn’t work.

Then I notice my dad standing there with a strange look on his face. He tells Tori Beth he wants to have sex with her. Next thing I know I am walking through space trying to find Tori Beth but I can’t. Then I am back in my den and I start walking towards my parent’s bedroom when I see my dad. He’s laying on his bed with all his clothes but Tori Beth only has on a pair of tight pants and no top. She is squatted down beside my dad and it looks like he is consoling her. I grab her hand and say, “I need to talk to you.“

Then Tori Beth and I are going up the stairs and I can hear my mom coming behind us. When I get to my room to give her a piece of my mind and slam the door my mom catches it. Then she says, “You better not get mad at her. She is a sweet girl.” Then my mom disappears.

Then I slam the door and sit straight up in bed and take about five minutes to realize that I am awake. The weird thing is that everything was so clear, I could hear the talking, see the detail, and everything.

Hi Anonymous—

I agree! This dream is a total whopper! No wonder you woke up confused. (But at least you’re not back with Tori Beth!)

Hmmmm. Do you think it’s possible you were thinking about giving Tori Beth another chance, and this dream is a reminder of all the reasons why maybe this isn’t the greatest idea? :-)

Curiously enough, at the beginning of the dream, it’s your mom who suggests that Tori Beth should come to dinner with your family. (We’ll get to this in a minute.) And so, you go pick her up, but sure enough things start to go bad very quickly. Tori Beth starts running her mouth, and your Mom “lights into her” before the car ride is through.

Tori Beth eventually succeeds in making your mother cry, though, (with more nice stories), and next turns her attention to your dad. Your dad, unfortunately, is an easy target. Tori Beth flirts with him, he tells her he wants to have sex with her, and next thing you know they’re both together in your dad’s bedroom! And Tori Beth’s got her top off!

You’re the only one who’s got any sense left at this point, so you take Tori upstairs to have a talk. But then your mom comes along AGAIN and tells you that Tori Beth really is a nice girl—after all the disasters she’s just caused...

Most of this dream appears to be fairly “transparent.” That is, if I were to ask you if Tori Beth often speaks inappropriately or embarrasses you around adults (including your parents) I bet you would say, “yes.” And if I asked you if she occasionally flirts with other, older men, you might also say “yes” to that question. The weird part of this dream, though, is your mom. How come she kept saying Tori Beth was so nice, when in real life she can’t stand her?

Men often get women they date confused with their mothers, Anonymous. Only you know if this is true in your case, but the reason your mom kept telling you Tori Beth was a nice girl in the dream may be because you keep wanting to believe that Tori Beth (like your mother) really is a nice girl. But do the facts add up?

The Dream Doctor’s advice? If Tori Beth is half the woman in real life that she is in this dream, say your Hail Mary’s that she’s your ex—and don’t look back!

(Was it that great?)
