My dream is that my x-boyfriend appears at swim practice with a dozen roses everyday. I keep having this dream and I really want to get over my x. Does this mean I still have feelings for him, or that he has feelings for me? I need help. I also have a dream where I keep losing my teeth in layers as in they peel away. Do you know what this means?

- Jamie, Age 17, Midland, MI, USA

Hi Jamie -

I’m sorry to hear about you and your x. Love is hard, isn’t it? I’ll try to give you some food for thought, though. Usually when we break up with people there are some pretty good reasons for the split up. I mean - it’s not just because he likes orange sherbet and you like raspberry sorbet, right? There’s probably some other, pretty good reasons why you two decided to stop going out.

It sounds like - from your dream - that he’s the one who wants to get back together. He’s the one bringing you roses. But it also sounds like you feel like it won’t work, and that you want to move on. Next time you get one of those heart pangs for your x, remind yourself of why it didn’t work out, and remind yourself to be realistic about your relationship. Judging from your dreams, I think you’re “over” him romantically. If I were you, I’d keep my eye out for a guy who - when he brings you roses - your heart really soars! You’ll find him! Don’t worry!

Dreams of teeth falling out usually reflect concerns about our appearance. You know the old saying: “Your smile is the first thing people notice when they meet you.” In your case you may be worried about how you look at school, what clothes you are wearing, how your makeup is, or what other people think of you. Not a big deal really, when you think about how it would be if your teeth were really falling out! Don’t sweat that dream!
