The Dangers and Risks of Sleep Apnea Pregnancy Syndrome (SAPS):

Questions for your doctor

If you suffer from any of the common symptoms of sleep apnea, you need to talk to your doctor. Bring these questions with you, and have your doctor talk to you about symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). These are questions that your doctor should be asking you - especially if you are pregnant or are planning on becoming pregnant.

  • Have people ever told you that you snore?

  • Is there a family history of snoring, high blood pressure, heart attack, or stroke?

  • Has your bed partner witnessed you choking, gasping, or holding your breath during sleep?

  • Have you ever awakened from sleep choking, gasping, or with a pounding heart?

  • Do you frequently awaken with a dry mouth?

  • Do you often have morning headaches?

  • Do you regularly feel un-refreshed, even after waking from a full night's sleep?

  • Do you have high blood pressure?

  • Is your blood pressure elevated in the morning when you wake up?

  • Are you often tired or wish you could fall asleep during your waking hours?

  • Do you ever doze while sitting at a computer, reading a boring document, or while watching TV?

  • Is it difficult to stay awake when driving for an hour or so?

  • Have you ever fallen asleep driving?

  • Do you often suffer from poor concentration or judgment, memory loss, irritability and/or depression?
