Common Dreams

I had this dream when I was 7 years old. I was running through some kind of swamp. Something was chasing me. The next thing I knew I was falling...falling...falling...for like an hour or so. Then suddenly I woke up with my leg flying out of my bed! It was weird. I forgot about this dream until I had it repeat exactly the same...11 years later! I awoke the same way too; with my leg flying out of the bed. Why is that???????

Greedy Fly

Dear Greedy Fly -

You dreamed that you were falling because your leg was falling out of bed! That’s why you woke up the same way each time! Things that are happening in the real world become included - “incorporated” is the scientfic term for it - into dreams all the time. Common examples include noises from alarm clocks, music from clock radios, the sound of a telephone ringing, the sound of children or other people talking in the next room, even being too hot or cold during sleep (we dream we are in a hot jungle or on a snowy ice-skating rink). In your dream, your brain felt that some part of you was falling - your leg - and then that sensation became included in the story-line of your dream.
